CNC Dental Students Offer Free Preventive Oral Care Services to Elementary Students
The dental students at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) ended the school year by providing preventive dental services to children from the Van Bien Elementary School through CNC's annual "Seal In A Smile" program.
The dental students at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) polished off the school year by providing preventive dental services to children from the Van Bien Elementary School with no or limited access to proper oral health.
This initiative is part of the school's "Seal In A Smile" program which is being held annually since 2000. This annual program is the first of its kind in British Columbia, Canada.
The "Seal In A Smile", in coordination with the regional health authority Northern Interior Dental Health team and the local School District 57 (SD57), aim to provide kids with brighter smiles and better oral health by offering free dental services like oral examination, fluoride, polishing, cleaning, and follow-up treatments. During the event, the elementary students are also taught about the importance of maintaining a good oral hygiene and they are also given some hygiene tips.
According to this year's class president, Jamie Irving, who is also a Dental Hygiene student at CNC, she never thought of being part of any "give back program" such as this. Just like the rest of the class, she is also very grateful and overwhelmed for being able to provide free proper health care services to elementary students and to help them have healthier teeth. She also encourages other private programs and schools in the country to initiate similar programs.
The school's dental courses register around 200 students per school year. And at the end of the curriculum, they provide free health care services and hygiene tips to the kids enrolled at the chosen elementary school.
Need a pair of dental loupes? We firmly believe that learning and getting accustomed to using the right precision dental tools, devices, and instruments like the Schultz optical loupes as early as dental school is critical for your dental career.
Starting your dental career right gives you better chances to succeed in the future. Plus, the dental magnification loupe makes it easier for you to learn the ropes of dentistry as compared to not using any magnification optical aid at all most especially during clinical courses. It also makes the learning curve less steep.
